“Lottery” by Randy Long

Holy shit! All 6 numbers. I’ve won the lottery! Wow. I’m going to Olympia to get 3 million dollars. I can’t believe I won. I’m so broke I don’t even have the money for gas. I’m so broke. It’s the weekend and I’ll have to wait until Monday. I’m a millionaire. Wow.
I will be able to buy a house, a new car, new clothes, all the things I’ve never had. 3 million. Let me see, no more having to worry about gas or driving a piece of crap car. I will buy new furniture. Everything is rushing through my head. Who will I tell? Better yet, who will I NOT tell? I’m rich. All 6 numbers. Cool. The lottery. Yeah! 3 million dollars. It’s Sunday. It will be the longest day ever. I need to tell somebody. My mom. Yeah, I’ll tell her.
“Mom, I’ve won the lottery. Yes, really. 3 million dollars. Amazing huh. Tomorrow I’m going to Olympia. Do you have 25 dollars? I can get to Olympia and back tomorrow for about 25 dollars, unless you got more. I will pay you back when I get back.”
I won’t be able to sleep tonight. 3 million dollars. I still can’t get over it.
Finally! It’s getting dark. I will probably be up all night long, waiting and waiting. My brother and sister came by—they can’t believe it.
Finally! Monday’s coming. WAIT! I’M WAKING UP! IT’S ALL BEEN JUST A DREAM!
