“The Lake on a Warm Day” by Richard F. Yates

As Mariah and I take a lovely stroll up to the lake, we see all the ducks, pairing off, two by two, one colorful one and one brown. And we see stupid bugs that suck because they buzz and fly at our faces, all the time, every day, forever. And, for some reason, there are thousands of humans taking their animals for walks, dogs (that bound and sniff and yuck and snarf all about the place), and cats (that dig trenches into the ground with their hammer-stiff legs and outstretched claws as they’re dragged around), and sea lions (that bark and cough and smell like gross fish), and “Old people who look for benches,” Mariah says, clearly making fun of me.
Gotta love a sunny day in the damp and dreary Pacific Northwest!
